It all started with this image of inspiration. I wanted to create a piece with a dinosaur on it.
Then these were my quick sketches. As you can see, I wasn't aiming to create a realistic dinosaur on the first cup. I prefer a rather simple and cartoon like look on my cups because to me, that's irresistible. I combined my ideas with the inspirational picture to create a set that's going to be similar in colors.
So I finally got to shape my cups out of clay. These were the results after they were bisque fired. I was really pleased when they came out. It was starting to look like what I've imagined.
At last, I got my cups glazed and fired again. I only used three colored glazes, which were white, hazy pink, and toasted sage. Although, I felt that I didn't do a good job glazing them, I still like them the way they are. One of the challenges I had was when I glazed the dinosaur cup. I wanted the pink to leak down from inside the cup and I wasn't sure how to do it. But it turned out awesome! The dinosaur is sitting on a melting volcano. This set really resembles my style. I like cute things.
